| aight, also, I don't think you should compare the price of skateboarding to fingerboarding, as their 2 different hobbies. Just because something is smaller than something else, doesn't necessarily mean it should be cheaper. I've spent more money on skateboarding than I have on fingerboarding, lol.

That's my exact point is that skate boarding can be very expensive. I could have compared it t ANYTHING. Like a used iPod orsomething. I believe that skateboarding or fingerboarding isn't determined in the board its in how good you actually are. Cause there can be a Guy out there who kills on a Tech deck per say than a Berlinwood complete. |

Thats true, however, I think just because you aren't as good as someone else doesn't mean you can't have a specific/expensive setup. It's annoying when people (not just kids) complain about how expensive something is, and its even more annoying when they say "I could buy a real skateboarding with the money" If you can, then go right ahead... |

| Trucks and wheels are understandable for the price, but decks, are totally outrageous. I don't get why 5 pieces of pressed veneer cost 45$? I'm not saying that nobody should ever buy one; I've even bought one. What I'm saying is that once you've made like 25 of those boards, you can pop them out like it's nothing. In my opinion, if companies REALLY cared about its consumers, they wouldn't sell them for that price. Just my 2 cents. |

That's because they'be spent way more money investing in molds and different glues etc. Also, most of the money they get are put into events. You have to realize the big companies are doing this for a living...not just a hobby. |

Again, why compare fingerboarding to skateboarding Why does it matter if one costs more than the other? Also, skateboarding has way more buyers, because of their bigger community. |

You make a good point. There are probably tons more skateboarders than fingerboarders. When you are a company and you sell your products if your market is big then you can mass produce your items and sell them at a lower cost. If your market is super small then if you want your products then you are going to have to pay out the A$$! (wasn't that cool that I incorporated the ass and the $ money sign together) P.S. So tell all of your friends about fingerboarding so that the community gets huge and we don't have to pay out the A$$ anymore. LOL |

| Don't forget that people like FF aren't making tons of money like the skateboard companies. The skateboard companies have the demand and money so they can order in bulk unlike us. Also with how much smaller fingerboards are even if you can find a machinist to help you they'll still charge you more since you're buying in a small quantity and they are having to make such a tiny part. |

| I remember a few years ago someone said that blackriver trucks are expensive because of the materials they had to purchase to make them. Now I dont know if this true or not so take this all with a grain of salt if its not true. Now at 65 dollars a set and with how many different sets I can find on the 600 plus pages archive on FFI I am sure they have made at least 20-25 thousand on there trucks alone. And that estimate is based on what I can see, not what I can so its most likely more. Now a company like blackriver has probably made close to the money they make of trucks also in berlinwood decks, ramps, bollie and all the other stuff they make. My question is at what point do we get rewarded for the money we have spent on all of this stuff and see prices drop, permanently nonetheless? The argument I always get is that they give so much back at events and whatnot. But I live in Canada, there is rarely events here and when they are they are on the other side of the country. I also work fulltime and am engaged so I most likely will not be able to see any of these benefits (as much as I'd like to). So for a guy like me who has spent a few hundred dollars on blackriver trucks alone (which yes has been my choice, and I understand this) at what point do I get some sort of appreciation for the support I have shown? Are they really down for the scene? There prices seem to go up rather then down and they wont even warranty my trucks? Also they make 32mm trucks now but you can only purchase single 32mm hangers if you email and jump through some loops and get lucky......Does this not seem ridiculously manipulative? So now I have to shell out another 65 if nobody got a chance to read my email? I am not trying to attack blackriver on any level but just wanted to give my thoughts on things I have noticed over the 3 years I have been ordering things from them.
This goes for all companies that have overhead start up costs. We as consumers understand that, but once those are paid off why have we never seen a drop in price?

| People charge a lot for decks because it takes a ton of time. Most company's have 3 or 4 metal molds, if that, and that means only about a deck every 8-12 hours. Then you have to take hours of sanding and lacquering and drilling. Keep in mind that everyone exect the massive companies are doing this as a hobby/love, not necceraly a buisness. People have school, real jobs, and basically lives to live. 45 dollars is a tiny amount of money for 8 hours of work. That's like half minimum wage in Canada, except fingerboards are a bit more tricky to make than an order of fries and a large hamburger. Most fingerboard companies like mine, Ryan's, Ross', etc. don't actually make money. Most of the money goes back into the decks investing in better molds, materials, new equipment etc. I make fingerboards cus I love to do it, not to make money. Trust me, there are a lot of better buisness plans than making fingerboards |

| Also there's no fucking way that blackriver trucks cost anywhere close to 65 dollars in materials to produce. I can go buy a billet of 6061 aircraft aluminum the size of a brt for 10 cents. It's the process of making them that costs, we pay for the CNCs that make them. If you go with HAAS you're looking at dropping 50k for one tabletop machine, and the probably have a couple dozen. Blackriver makes and spends a fair bit of dough.
Edit: sorry for double post. Also, HAAS makes 5 axis machines, which I'm not sure is needed for BRTs but the design certainly looks like it. |

| I think a lot of people are simplifying the cost of a product too much. It's easy to say "I can buy x amount of material for x €, which is much cheaper when I would buy it".
When you make something for yourself, there are several costs you're not having, which companies do have to implement in their price: labour, taxes, financial costs, depreciation, overhead, ... When you buy something from a company/factory, you're not only buying the material, but you're also compensating the time you don't have to spend yourself in creating it, the usage of your own tools, ...
It's kinda like when you buy a newly built house from a specialized company. You can also choose to go buy bricks and cement in a DIY store and build it for yourself "much cheaper".

| to just say its an expensive hobby is ignorant, it doesnt have to be. And we can't blame the companies for it as much as ourselves. The mentality of "its expensive and thats the way it is" is why it is the way it is and will continue to be. If we all stopped buying the shit at these prices they'd drop in a hurry. But no one seems to have the balls to say fuck it im only buying cheap shit (me included). It just sucks to hear so man people accepting that thigns are the way they are, I mean sure I am still gonna buy this dumb expensive shit but im going to at least state my opinion on how I hate paying this much. SO I think everyone does "get" that its expensive Xavier, I surely do. However I am not happy about it and often wonder WHY its not expensive, not if it is. |
