I don't think ive ever had a problem with my fingers locking up stopping me from doing flips etc. Are your hands cold while you fingerboard? When my hands are cold my hand muscles are usually stiff and I don't fingerboard at best if that makes any sense. |

| Washers have two functions. 1. Preventing the wheel from sliding on the axle. 2. Protecting the back of the wheel.
If you don't care much about these you wont need washers. |

Yeah most of the time.. Could that be the problem? I think so. I practice Aikido(martial art) with my dad, who's the instructor, and a co-instructor was making us basically do front flips, except someone's holding your arm, and you use the flip to break your fall. For me, that's kinda scary, also because I get hurt from doing it wrong sometimes, so I was hesitating. So the other instructor told me that if you hesitate with it, you're most likely gonna do it wrong. Long story short, hesitating will mess you up. If you're calm, you'll more than likely get rid of the problem you're having. |

| It's easier to do tricks on a setup that is made after your preferences, so in some way yes.
This doesn't mean that you can "buy" tricks, by getting expensive gear. But i am a whole lot more consistent on my main setup than on my "to-go Tech Deck". |

| Yeah... Like sometimes I just feel like I'm not getting enough pop out of my tech deck... Or that it's a little to small. :/ I'm having a lot of trouble with kickflips it's been like a week and a half. |

| Well.. As i said, you wont learn tricks by buying another deck. You should experiment with different finger positions for the flips.
I learned 360 as the first trick of all. Maybe you should try that out. I learned them from the old Tech Deck torturials, but i guess there is some better ones out there now. |

| I can ollie really easy and I can do a lot of those flips where you put your front finger under the nose and fake flip and catch... I can't really do any kickflips or anything... The board just goes wild or my fingers tense up a lot and I can't pop the board... |

| Honestly, when I got my first real set-up, it was 10 times easier to do tricks. I could land flip tricks on a TD before, but once I got a real set-up it was definitely easier. |

| I think the only mandatory things would be a deck and tape, the rest help, but these two make tricks more comfortable, and easier, if the shape and size is to your preference. |

| I'd say generally its a lot easier to get a nice deck and tape to learn tricks on. Follow the 'new to fingerboarding' guide on unitefingerboarding.com, it talks you through what to upgrade first and I've had a lot of positive feedback on it and such |

| I use TD Wides so my nuts always loosen up. First of all, no, I don't wanna glue them.
How do you manage to loosen the two nuts exactly the same? Sometimes one's tighter while the other is loose. |

I'm just wondering if it will be easier to learn on a better setup? Yes it does (assuming the better stuff means higher quality components but still within your general preferences). It can be good to learn tricks on a TD first though. A TD provides the basic needs of a fingerboard very well. I have learned to be able to adapt to any fingerboard I own and can do my core tricks on all of them. Stock Tech Decks were what I started on and learned all of my basic tricks and some advanced ones on them so I've always been comfortable on them. The good thing about Tech Decks is that a new fingerboarder can easily conclude whether they can get interested into fingerboarding with them without spending much. I think ollies can be just as difficult as kickflips on fingerboards and I would probably advise getting a few tricks on the Tech Deck before advancing to other products. Higher quality products are obviously better for doing tricks on but I don't think it's worth buying until either you have a few tricks down or you have money to burn. One other thing that could possibly affect your ability to kickflip would be your general preferences for fingerboards. I had stuck with TDs for so long and my fingers are quite skinny so I've always liked skinny decks (not that I can't skate a 29-30mm). If you find the TD too skinny, grab something you feel that you would like. If you know anyone with fingerboards, try to test those first to gather some idea of what you want to buy. I have always felt like there is a massive fingerboard bandwagon of people buying Berlinwoods and BRTs, adopting a particular style just to copy what other people are doing. Miaow. |
